Building upon earlier research, the researcher will be working in the fields of intelligent systems, data mining, and management informatics. It is expected that the researcher starts a Phd. This will typically include a thorough literature study, collaboration with on-going research, and the development and validation of new research methodologies. What is Special Scholarship Program (SSP)?
Special Scholarship Program (SSP) was established in 2003 in order to support the advanced research of the university by enlisting the help of highly capable international students. Every year in April and October, the university enrolls selected foreign doctoral students under specific research projects. The students pursue the doctoral course in English while at the same time assisting their host professor as a research assistant (RA). Through this program KUT wishes to expand and deepen international ties with academic and educational institutions all over the world.

5. OBLIGATIONS
(1) Scholarship recipient must work as a research assistant under the specific research project.
However, the total paid working time per week, including research assistant work, should not exceed 28 hours.
(2) Scholarship recipient must report his/her study and research achievements to the dean of the graduate school of engineering at the end of each semester. The submitted reports will be evaluated.

6. BENEFITS
(1) Receive up to 1,200, 000 yen per year for working as a research assistant.
(2) Exemption from 300,000 yen enrollment fee and 535,800 yen (per year) tuition fee.
(3) Receive 200,000 yen for travel and initial living costs (given only to applicants who are living outside Japan at the time of application)

MSc Molecular Mechanisms of Disease scholarships
In the 2006 - 2008 period, 9 talented students from outside the EER received financial support from our MMD Study Fund. For the 2009 curriculum year, 6 talented non-EER students have been selected that receive full scholarships covering all study and living costs. These students come from Turkey, India, Ethiopia, and Zambia.

For the 2010 curriculum year, we will also select 6 non-EER students that will receive a full scholarship. Candidates for the MMD scholarship however must apply before 1 December 2009 and thereby can also apply for HFP or NFP fellowships (deadlines 1 February and 1 March 2010 respectively).

PhD positions in the NCMLS graduate school
Approximately 160 PhD students are part of the Nijmegen Centre for Molecular Life Sciences graduate school. Each year, more than 40 PhD positions become available. MSc MMD graduates are prime candidates for these PhD positions, which have been written by one of the 40 Principal Investigators of the NCMLS.

Personal PhD grants
A successful research career starts when a masters student writes his/her own research project. The Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre has provided 3 PhD grants for the best projects written by Molecular Mechanisms of Disease (MMD) or Biomedical Science (BMS) students that started their masters in 2007. The selected students will start their projects in September of 2009. Likewise, 3 PhD projects have been reserved for MMD and BMS students who have started their masters in 2008.

For the students starting their MMD or BMS masters in 2009 and thereafter, 6 PhD projects will be available on yearly basis.

Students who want to apply for (almost) full scholarships such as HSP, NFP and MMD Study Fund should send in their application before 1 December 2009 (to start in September 2010).

This master`s programme has been accredited by the Dutch Ministry of Education. This means that Dutch students enrolled in this programme may apply for a government scholarship. The Centre for the History of Science, Technology and Medicine at Imperial College London invites applications for the Hans Rausing PhD studentship, starting in the 2009/10 academic year.

The history of science and technology has been taught and researched at Imperial College London since 1963, and CHoSTM in its current form was established in 1992. In the recent Research Assessment Exercise, CHoSTM was awarded the highest rating of all 83 UK history departments. 40% of its research was classed as world-leading in terms of originality, significance and rigor, with another 40% judged internationally excellent.

The Hans Rausing award is open to home, EU and overseas students who hold or are about to complete an MSc in the history of science, technology and medicine or related field. Applicants should posses an outstanding academic track record and strong research potential.

The proposed topic should relate to the history of science and / or technology. Proposals in the history of medicine are not eligible for consideration.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be involved with and learn cutting edge statistical, simulation, and optimization techniques as they relate to natural resource economics and fishery management.

The interdisciplinary postgraduate program `Topology of Technology` at the Darmstadt University of Technology, Germany, announces 10 doctoral fellowships, starting Nov. 1, 2009, and running for 2 years (with an possible option of a third year).

The program is organized by teachers from the subjects of history, sociology, philosophy, literature and language, mechanical engineering, informatics, and civil/construction engineering. It focuses on the relationship between technology and space at present, in history, and in a possible future. It has five thematic foci:
- Information Technology and the Topology of the Network Society
- Technological Spaces of the Body and the Perception of Space
- The Circulation of Materials -- Mobility -- Tourism
- Topologies of Technology and Forms of Representation
- Fields of Power and the Role of Technology

The program is primarily financed by the German Research Council (DFG); see www.dfg.de.
Monthly stipends range between 1,000 and 1,365 euros. All applicants need to have a Master degree or the equivalent thereof. Since course work and seminars are carried out in both German and English, it is expected that applicants are willing to learn to read and understand spoken German. Fellows are expected to work together in our beautifully situated villa downtown Darmstadt and thus need to take up their residence in the city or the vicinity.

Description of scheme
Second Call 2009

The Irish Research Council for Science, Engineering and Technology (IRCSET) `EMBARK` Scheme offers opportunities for suitably qualified students to pursue a postgraduate degree by research. The Scheme supports basic research in the broad areas of Science, Engineering and Technology. The call for applications opens on June 9th 2009 for students and researchers hoping to begin postgraduate research in the Republic of Ireland in October 2009. While a majority of postgraduate Scholarships awarded by the Council are offered to European uni0n (EU) citizens or to those who are ordinarily resident within a member state of the EU, a proportion of awards are also offered to exceptional candidates who are ordinarily resident in non EU member states.

Scholarships are awarded only to those who will be full-time students and who will engage fulltime in research during the period of the award. Students awarded under the scheme must maintain their principle residence in Ireland during the term of the Scholarship and Scholarships must be held at a recognised third-level institution in Ireland.



The Scholarship awards are valued at €24,003 per year of award. Of this amount €16,002 is paid as a maintenance award to the Scholar. The remaining €8,001 is allocated to cover payment of fees to the Research Body, and support for the research to be carried out.

GOVERNMENT OF IRELAND SCHOLARSHIPS IN SCIENCE, ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY
Description of Scheme
The duration of the award will normally be 36 months for PhD Funding. Funding for a M.Sc. (by research) will normally be for 12 months. Recipients of the award at M.Sc. level are encouraged to continue to a PhD providing that the additional funding period is agreed with IRCSET in advance.

Applications for funding under the scheme are accepted by an online electronic application system available at our website www.ircset.ie from June 9th 2009.

In addition to applications for Embark Initiative Funding applicants may also apply, using the online application system, for funding under IRCSET`s Enterprise Partnership Scheme. PhD Scholarship in various program at United Arab Emirates Unversity

The United Arab Emirates University announces the establishment of a new Ph.D. program for qualified Emiratis and a number of expatriate students. The program will begin Fall 2009 and it is anticipated that up to 20 students will be admitted this first year.

I. GENERAL INFORMATION
1. All Ph. D. students must be full time students.
2. All Ph.D. students will be supported by a scholarship that will include:

a. A monthly tax free stipend of 10,000 AED
b. University provided furnished housing
c. Health insurance for student, spouse and up to three children
d. Textbooks will be provided
e. Annual round trip air tickets to home country for student, spouse and up to three children (for expatriate students)

3. Tuition will be charged for the Ph.D. program on a credit hour basis and all admitted students will be eligible to receive sponsorships of tuition. Students admitted to the Ph.D. program who do not receive external sponsorships will be eligible for University sponsorship of tuition charges.
4. The expected duration of the Ph.D. program will be 3-4 years post Bachelor`s degree or 2-3 years post Master`s degree
5. The program will consist of at least one year`s graduate level course work, passing of a qualifying examination and successful completion of a dissertation.
6. The exact nature of a Ph.D. students` program will be prepared by the host department and approved by the Board of Graduate Research Studies.
7. Fields available for study include all areas currently presented by the faculties and colleges at UAEU. Discipline field names will be used such as chemical engineering, physics, history, etc.

II. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
1. Minimum GPA Expectation:

a. If post Bachelor degree entry - 3.5 out of 4.0 for final 60 credit hours
b. If post Master`s degree entry - 3.5 out of 4.0 for Masters Course work.

2. Minimum TOEFL score - 575 expected
3. GRE scores will be considered; GMAT scores for Business will be considered. These scores are not required but will strengthen the application.
4. Two letters of recommendation are required
5. After receipt of the completed application form and supporting information as outlined in the next section, an application proposal will be prepared by host department and will require the approval of the department chair and college dean. This proposal will include a statement of personal goals from the candidate and a description of the proposal program of work.
6. The proposal will be considered by the Board of Graduate Research Studies and a recommendation made to the Provost who will make the final decision as to acceptance into the program.
7. Each of the following will be considered in reaching a decision whether or not to approve enrollment and the proposed course of study:

a. Candidates suitability, academic achievements and potential
b. Suitability and research record of supervisor and, if applicable, co-supervisor(s)
c. Suitability and research record of thesis advisory committee membership
d. Department facilities or their equivalent
e. Proposed coursework, including learning outcome goals
f. Proposed thesis topic or general area of research (exact topic may beapproved later)
g. Eligibility and admission to the Ph.D. program are independent of the applicant`s tuition sponsorship.

III. APPLICATION PROCEDURE
1. Candidate must complete and submit the online application form that may be found at www.uaeu.ac.ae/PhD
2. Candidate must have official transcripts of all university work sent directly from the appropriate universities to Office of Admissions, UAE University, P.O. Box 17555, United Arab Emirates (use of express mail suggested).
3. Official score reports of the TOEFL, (GRE and/or GMAT) should be sent to:

More scholarships are available than you may think. It's worth your time and effort to seek out relevant scholarships and apply for them. But pursuing college scholarships should be done in an organized way if you plan on being successful, and here are the top 10 tips to help you on How to get a scholarship in college.

#1 Apply only if you are eligible. Read all the scholarship requirements and directions carefully to make sure you're eligible before you send in your application.

#2 Complete the application in full. If a question doesn't apply, note that on the application. Don't just leave a blank. Supply all additional supporting material, such as transcripts, letters of recommendation and essays.

#3 Follow directions. Provide everything that's required, but don't supply things that aren't requested, you could be disqualified.

#4 Neatness counts. Always type your application, or if you must print, do so neatly and legibly. Make a couple of photo copies of all the forms before you fill them out. Use the copies as working drafts as you develop your application packet.

#5 Write an essay that makes a strong impression. POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH STUDENTSHIPS IN MEDIA AND CULTURAL STUDIES

Building on our recent success in RAE 2008 (65% World Leading/Internation ally Excellent research), the Centre for Research in Media and Cultural Studies invites applications for five fully-funded PhD research studentships. Applicants should be suitably qualified and motivated to undertake a full-time programme of research leading to a PhD. Although we welcome applications from across the field of media and cultural studies, we would be particularly interested in research projects that fall within one of the Centre`s general research themes:

Under the Research Program "Fiscal Federalism" (Heads: Prof. Albert Solé-Ollé & Prof. Núria Bosch-Roca) at the IEB, we are seeking applications for Four Doctoral Scholarships

The academic year starts on September 1, 2009. The scholarship is for a period of two years (Master`s period), plus two additional years (PhD period) for students who are accepted on the PhD program. The amount of each stipend is 1,000 euro/month, and tuition fees will be waived.

The successful candidates will be admitted to the Master`s program in Economics at the University of Barcelona. The Master`s program is recognized by the Ministry of Education and the PhD program has received an award of excellence by the Ministry of Science.

The Master`s program comprises core subjects during the first year (Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Mathematics and Econometrics) and three optional subjects from a list. During the second year there are also optional subjects, apart from the Master`s thesis. We expect the candidate to be engaged in the field of "Public Economics" (optional subjects: Public Finance I: Public spending, Public Finance II: Taxation, Fiscal Federalism, Political Economics, and Health Economics). During the PhD period, the candidate will have two supervisors: one from the IEB, and another from the IEB research network. During the third and fourth years, candidates will be encouraged to undertake short periods as visiting researchers at institutions connected with the IEB.

Participation in the Research Program "Fiscal Federalism" provides a unique opportunity to help address issues such as the design of the financial system of sub-national governments, the evaluation of decentralization in the provision of public services, the analysis of inter-governmental tax competition, and the political economy of sub-national policy making. The IEB also provides an excellent research-oriented environment, as it regularly organizes research events such as seminars, workshops and summer schools. The candidate will be encouraged to actively participate in all these events.
